The year 2009 commemorates the 400 year anniversary since when Galileo Galilei began his exploration of the universe, since that day, planets and stars have become the fascination of many people.
Inaugurating the international year of astronomy, Minister Dolores Cristina stressed on the importance of science around us and unveiled the government’s plans for better understanding of science in schools.

She said that astronomy is a very old science and many people are fascinated when they look at the starts and the beauty of the universe.

“We live in a technological world and need to encourage young children and youths to take up a career in science.”

She reiterated that Malta’s economy and industry are changing and are now more based on technology.
