Malta joins worldwide astronomy event

An observation session is being organised by the Malta committee of the International Year of Astronomy 2009 at Ghar id-Dud on Sunday at 2030h, as part of a worldwide event
Telescopes will be set up by amateur astronomers who will offer explanations and also present audiovisual presentations.

The International Year of Astronomy 2009 Cornerstone project, 100 Hours of Astronomy, is on track to be the largest single science public outreach event ever. More than 1,500 events have been registered in over 130 countries between April 2 and April 5, with more than 1 million people expected to participate.

The local committee has already organised several astronomy events to mark the International Year of Astronomy, attended by hundreds of people.
